Kathleen Goeckel Sharrar was born January 24, 1924, in Owosso, MI, to Fred H. and Fanny Bowen Goeckel. A native of Owosso, she was baptized, confirmed and married (Jack E. Sharrar) at St. John’s United Church of Christ. They moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1953.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kathleen belonged to the Rachel Circle and served as an Elder and Deacon. She was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Extension Club and Child Study Club.
Kathleen is survived by her son (Jack F. Sharrar) and daughter (Renee Lee Sharrar), nieces and nephews and step-sons Douglas and David Sharrar. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers H. Fred Goeckel (of Temperance, MI) and James E. Goeckel (of Venice, CA).
In her long life she enjoyed bowling, crocheting, crafting, reading, tending flowers, birds and dancing in the 1940's. During World War II, she was employed by A.G. Redmond Manufacturing in Owosso.
A funeral service celebrating Kathleen’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Andrew Miller officiating. Friends may gather with the family at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes are available at the church and the funeral home.
